Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic is happy to have a chance to spend some "quality time" with Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray. The Big Four - who had many great battles on the biggest stage over the last decade and a half - are all representing Team Europe at the Laver Cup.
Since this is Federer's final tournament, Djokovic would like to do well and help the Swiss go out with a victory. "It’s great we will have a chance to spend some quality time off the court together,” Djokovic told Eurosport.
“We have team dinners and will chat about tennis, sports, life. We don’t normally do that on tour, we have our own teams and families, so this is quite unique. We all want to win and perform well but at the same time because of Roger’s farewell and the opportunity to be alongside some of my greatest rivals in my career you also want to share some good times off the court too”.
Djokovic, Federer, Nadal & Murray have a WhatsApp group
"The WhatsApp group is what keeps us together," Djokovic added. The Laver Cup has been taking place since 2017. In 2020, the Laver Cup was cancelled because of the pandemic.
In the previous years, Federer and Nadal and Djokovic were teammates on the Laver Cup. But for the first time this year, all the members from the Big Four group are at the Laver Cup and teammates. "Great to be here, exciting, full of emotional moments on and off the court, particularly for Roger.
It's exciting, it's great to be here, probably once in a lifetime to be in a team along with Rafa, Roger and Andy, three of my biggest rivals," Djokovic said. Murray, 35, is set to make their Laver Cup debuts at the O2 Arena this week. Also, Djokovic is set to play for the first time since winning Wimbledon.
