Daniil Medvedev admits that Novak Djokovic is a level above him as he does not want to compare himself to Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. On Friday, Medvedev and Djokovic delivered an absolute thriller at the ATP Finals.
After three hours and 11 minutes, it was Djokovic who claimed a tight 6-3 6-7 (5) 7-6 (2) win. Even though there wasn't much separating Medvedev and Djokovic in their Turin match, the Russian didn't want to put himself in the same sentence as the Serb.
Daniil Medvedev: Novak Djokovic is in a league of his own
"Novak is in a league of his own, that's for sure, with Rafa and Roger. Then it's the rest. Maybe one moment somebody's going to try to catch them number of slams or whatever, then we going to talk about different.
I definitely don't put myself in there. We had some tough battles. He's leading in head-to-head, even if I won some important matches. Yeah, that's all I can say. Yeah, I definitely, definitely not close to Novak. Maybe when we play, yes, but in general you cannot compare myself to him or any one of the big three," Medvedev said.
Meanwhile, Medvedev exited the ATP Finals after going 0-3. In his second group stage match, Medvedev lost after failing to serve out for the match against Stefanos Tsitsipas. Against Djokovic, the same thing happened for Medvedev - he was serving for the match at 5-4 in the third set but failed to close out the match.
After exiting the ATP Finals, Medvedev was straight honest when reflecting on his ATP Finals run. "Super easy, I sucked, so that's what happened. It's disaster. What I'm really happy is that this match didn't count in going out of the group, otherwise I would have two matches where I lost serving for the match. At least this one didn't count," Medvedev said.
