Daniil Medvedev believes some players don't necessarily need to be in great form in order to be confident as he thinks Novak Djokovic probably always arrives to Australia very confident in his chances. Medvedev, a former world No 1, is full of confidence at the moment as he is coming off back-to-back triumphs in Rotterdam and Doha.
This Tuesday, Medvedev also kicked off his Dubai campaign with a 6-4 6-2 win over Matteo Arnaldi. Medvedev has caught fire in recent weeks and he is targeting to win a third consecutive title in Dubai.
Medvedev: Djokovic is probably always confident in Australia
"It feels great because confidence is very important in tennis.
We all know it. I think every tennis player has different approaches to confidence. For example, I have no idea, for me it's more important to have the confidence kind of like in the moment than, for example, last year remembering I played good there.
Maybe it's different for Novak because when he comes to Australia, it feels like no matter what happened before, he's always in confidence there. So for me it's important in the moment. Right now I feel great. Even today I felt like I was far from my best tennis, but I managed to close it out kind of in two sets.
That always helps. Yeah, I'm just really happy to be on a streak right now. Streaks always finish. I will try to extend mine as long as I can. Feeling great. Hopefully can do some good things here in Dubai," Medvedev explained, per Sportskeeda.
Meanwhile, Medvedev knows how it feels to play Djokovic in Australia. In the 2021 Australian Open final, Djokovic defeated Medvedev in straight sets. At the start of the 2023 season, Djokovic beat Medvedev in the Adelaide semifinal.
Against Medvedev in Adelaide, Djokovic pulled his leg and suffered a hamstring injury. Still, Djokovic went on to win Adelaide and then the Australian Open.
