Novak Djokovic learns projected path to his third French Open title

No 3 seed Novak Djokovic has learned his projected path to winning his third French Open title. In his opener at Roland Garros, Djokovic will meet world No 114 Aleksandar Kovacevic. In the French Open second round, Djokovic is projected to meet former world No 31 Marton Fucsovics.

The third round should bring Djokovic's first match against a seeded player as the Serb is projected to meet No 29 seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina - the player who stunned him in Monte Carlo last year. In the French Open round-of-16, Djokovic is projected to meet 13th-seeded Hubert Hurkacz.

Then, Djokovic is expected to meet Andrey Rublev in what will be a rematch of this year's Australian Open quarterfinal. In the French Open semifinal, Djokovic is projected to play top-seeded Carlos Alcaraz. Should Djokovic reach the French Open, he is projected to meet No 2 seed Daniil Medvedev.

Can Djokovic win his first clay title in 2023 at the French Open?

Djokovic's preparation for the French Open wasn't the greatest since he suffered a surprise Monte Carlo round-of-16 and he also surprisingly lost in the Rome and Banja Luka quarterfinals.

In his last tournament played, Djokovic was beaten by Holger Rune in the Rome quarterfinal. After beating Djokovic, Rune said Djokovic would sitll be the man to beat at the French Open. “I still think Novak is the main favourite for the event.

He’s the one with the most Slams of who’s playing, the most experienced. Then we have Alcaraz. We have Medvedev. We have a lot of guys. I think if I have to pick one favourite, I’ll probably pick Novak. But it’s more open as we don’t have Rafa this year.

For sure [Medvedev] has been showing some good signs in this clay season, playing better and better. For sure I think he is one of the favourites," Rune said in Rome. It remains to be seen if this is the year Djokovic wins his third French Open title.
