Romanian tennis coach Cosmin Georgescu revealed for Romanian media that, as Novak Djokovic's roommate at Nikola Pilic's tennis academy, he got introduced to alcohol after Nole bought him a cocktail. "I had finished a training session, I had no idea how tennis goes.
I got home and my father told me: in a week you will go to Germany to a tennis academy. You will play tennis, you will also go to high school there. I didn't know a word of German, and I didn't know English very well. Overwhelmed by emotions, I started to cry", reveals Cosmin Georgescu for Romanian publication ProSport.
Georgescu explained how Djokovic became his first colleague at Pilic's tennis academy. "I arrived in Germany! 'Cosmin, I'm leaving in three days, I'll see you in eight months,' my father told me, briefly and comprehensively.
A total shock but I was lucky, the chance to have some incredible, extraordinary colleagues, one of them being Novak Djokovic! Nole was my first roommate at the Tennis Academy of the legendary Croatian tennis player Nikki Pilic," Georgescu said.
"Pilic put me in the room with Djokovic! There were other children, both from Croatia and Serbia, even Russians. Pilic's academy was not very profitable, prosperous, at that time. Pilic hoped to convince a talented boy to market his academy," the Romanian continued.
Djokovic bought Georgescu his first alcoholic drink
Coach Georgescu narrated how Djokovic introduced him to alcohol in a Munchen bar. "I was with Djokovic for the first time in my life in a bar in Munich! I drank my first glass of alcohol with Nole.
He was older, already more mature. He took me to that bar and honored me with a cocktail and said: for my good Romanian friend! It was my first experience while trying to get used to life in Germany. And the first one with Djokovic! Then Nole went to Bucharest for Open Romania where Ion Tiriac gave him a wild-card" Georgescu recounts.
