Novak Djokovic and Nikola Cacic have suffered a loss in the Cincinnati Masters doubles first round. Jamie Murray and Michael Venus, two former top-10 players in doubles, ousted Djokovic and Cacic 6-4 6-2. The first break points of the match were seen in the third game when Djokovic and Cacic missed out on two break points.

In the seventh game, Djokovic and Cacic failed to convert one more break point chance. After missing out on three break points, Djokovic and Cacic - who were serving to stay in the first set in the 10th game - lost their service for the first time in the key moments of the first set and ended up losing the opener.

After winning the first set, Murray and Venus also broke Djokovic and Cacic in the fourth game of the second set to open a 3-1 lead. In the eighth game - when Djokovic and Cacic were serving to stay in the match - Murray and Venus earned their second break of the set to complete a two-set win.

Djokovic now set for singles

In the Cincinnati doubles first round, Djokovic officially stepped out on the court for the first time since losing the Wimbledon final. After a first-round bye in the Cincinnati singles event, Djokovic will start his campaign by playing against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

In his pre-tournament press conference in Cincinnati, Djokovic claimed he needed just one day to move on from the Wimbledon final loss. "It's not the first [nor] the last match that I lost, so I was over it in a day. Obviously, I needed some really good rest after that, and some time with my family, and that's what I did.

So, of course, I was regretting not using the chances during that final. I was [a] set up and had some set points in the second and I felt that I was close to being in the lead. And then, obviously, some break points in the fifth.

It was a close match, but well deserved from his side, because to win he played better in the important moments, and that's what I said after the final. I think he was a deserved winner and that's it really, pretty much. You move on," Djokovic said.
