Taylor Fritz says it "would be a pretty good time" to finally clinch his first win over Novak Djokovic in the US Open quarterfinal. Fritz, ranked at No 9 in the world, has had zero wins and seven defeats so far in his matches against Djokovic.
On Sunday, Fritz defeated Dominic Stricker in straight sets to set up a quarterfinal match against Djokovic at Flushing Meadows. "He's gotten me seven times. There's no one on tour that has any kind of a record like that against me, so I'm hoping one of these times I've got to get him.
The US Open quarters would be a pretty good time," Fritz said ahead of his US Open match against Djokovic.

Fritz hopes to finally beat Djokovic
After losing six matches against Djokovic between 2019 and 2022, Fritz clashed against Djokovic for the first time this season during last month's Cincinnati Masters.
In their Cincinnati quarterfinal, Fritz didn't perform well as Djokovic claimed a routine 6-0 6-4 win. "It's good that I got the one in Cincinnati out of the way. Not that it would have necessarily changed anything, but I was not at my best that day.
I'm glad for that, because I think I'll be in a much better head space approaching this match. I have nothing to lose. I'm not going to overplay. I'm not going to do anything different because I'm playing Novak. I'm going to play my game, play within myself and trust that if I play well, it's enough," Fritz said.
In the past, Fritz had some tight matches against Djokovic. In the 2021 Australian Open third round, Fritz won the third and fourth sets before losing to Djokovic in five sets. Last year, Fritz competed extremely well against Djokovic in the ATP Finals semifinal but the Serb escaped with a 7-6 (5) 7-6 (6) win. It remains to be seen if Fritz can clinch his first against Djokovic at the US Open.
