Andrey Rublev wasn't interested in finding excuses after his US Open exit at the Russian highlighted that Novak Djokovic found a way to win in the same conditions just a day earlier. On Wednesday, Rublev exited the US Open in the quarterfinal stage after Daniil Medvedev handed him a 6-4 6-3 6-4 loss.
The conditions were far from ideal as it was very hot and humid, which caused the players to often use ice packs and longer breaks between points. On Tuesday, Djokovic claimed a straight-set win over Taylor Fritz in similar conditions.
When Rublev was asked about his US Open quarterfinal loss, he refused to put any blame on the conditions for it, highlighting that Djokovic won in similar conditions a day earlier.

Rublev: Djokovic played in the same conditions and found a way to win
"I'm not even thinking about my health.
I don't know. At this moment, these moments I'm thinking that, I don't know, I need to fight. Doesn't matter how is tough. I mean, the sport is not easy. And you need to be ready for everything that can happen. In the end, I don't know.
In the end, the best players, they prove that they are ready, and that's why they are the best. So I don't know. Yesterday Novak [Djokovic] was playing in the same conditions, and nothing happened and he was able to win still the match against really a good player, against Taylor [Fritz].
But I feel it is really tough to beat him [Fritz] with his serve, and he [Djokovic] was able to manage it really well. So there is something about the best players, they do better or they ready better," Rublev explained. For Rublev, it was yet another disappointing loss late in a Grand Slam.
Following his US Open loss to Medvedev, Rublev's record in Grand Slam quarterfinals was pushed to 0-9. Rublev will now have to wait for 2024 to make his first Grand Slam semifinal.
