Coach Patrick Mouratoglou says Novak Djokovic entered the US Open final with the mindset and attitude to "conquer" that day against Daniil Medvedev. In this year's US Open final, Djokovic claimed a straight-set 6-3 7-6 (5) 6-3 win over Medvedev to lift his fourth title at Flushing Meadows and his 24th Grand Slam title.
It was a complete contrast to the 2021 US Open final, when Djokovic suffered a straight-set defeat to Medvedev. Reflecting on what was different this time, Mouratoglou identified two things - Djokovic came to conquer and he did an outstanding job in the tactical part.
"In this 2023 US Open final between Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev, two things were key in that final. The first thing was his mindset. In the finals of Grand Slams, there are two different Novaks. There is the Novak that comes to conquer and when he is like that and he plays his best tennis, he's the best player in the world.
And there is the Djokovic who comes to the final to avoid losing and this one is beatable. He is extremely difficult to beat but he is beatable. In that Grand Slam final he came to conquer and he did. The second element that was key I think was the tactical element," Mouratoglou said in a video uploaded on his Instagram.

Mouratoglou thinks Djokovic prepared great tactics for the Medvedev match
Also in his video, coach Mouratoglou explained how Djokovic's tactics included shortening points against Medvedev.
During the match, Mouratoglou noticed Djokovic frequently going for serve-and-volley and also playing using the center of the court a lot. In the end, it's safe to say Djokovic prepared great tactics and then executed them perfectly against Medvedev.
As a result, Djokovic concluded his 2023 Grand Slam season with three titles in four Slams played. Djokovic only didn't win Wimbledon this year, where he suffered a five-set loss to Carlos Alcaraz in the final.
