Grigor Dimitrov believes Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz are two "completely different players" but still the two best players in the game. In 2023, only Djokovic and Alcaraz were able to win Grand Slam titles and sit at the world No. 1 spot. In the end, Djokovic had more success as the Serb won three Slams and finished as the world No. 1 season. Alcaraz also enjoyed great success as he beat Djokovic in the Wimbledon final and was ranked at No. 1 a couple of times throughout 2023.

“Nothing to compare, they are completely different players, different generations. They have been playing differently and have done different things, but they’ve been the two best players in the world, alongside a few others. This is where we are at now and next year it is going to get more exciting,” Dimitrov told Gulf News when asked about Djokovic and Alcaraz.

Dimitrov happy with his state, expects the competition to be 'harder' in 2024

Dimitrov, a former world No. 3, didn't win any titles in 2023. However, he still had a couple of notable results and finished the season with a 41-21 record. Late in the season, Dimitrov finished as runner-up to Djokovic in the Paris Masters final and he was also a semifinalist at the Shanghai Masters. Dimitrov, now ranked at No. 14 in the world and 32 years old, feels he is in a good state and looking forward to the 2024 season.

“I think this was my best year this year and I did a lot of good things and played well throughout the year. Obviously, I was lacking a few moments here and there, where I could have done a little bit better. But I ended up on a good note, that was important. Making the Paris Open final was a good step forward. It’s all in the past now. At the moment, everyone is displaying a good tennis and a lot of the players are picking up. So we are going to see some new faces and I think the competition will be harder," Dimitrov said.

Meanwhile, Dimitrov is starting his 2024 season at the Brisbane International, where he won the title in 2017.
