Carlos Alcaraz paid a very special tribute to Novak Djokovic following their Saudi Arabia match, saying it is "amazing" to be in a position to learn from the Serb so closely.

Alcaraz, 20, defeated world No. 1 Djokovic 4-6 6-4 6-4 at the Riyadh Season Tennis Cup on Wednesday. In 2023, Alcaraz and Djokovic created a new big rivalry on the ATP Tour. Just days before the start of the new season, Alcaraz and Djokovic delivered another great match.

"Learning from Djokovic so closely is amazing. I grew up watching him win," Alcaraz said after the match, via Jose Morgado.

Djokovic backs Alcaraz to lead tennis for 10-15 years

On the main level, 36-year-old Djokovic owns a 3-2 head-to-head against Alcaraz. Ahead of the 2024 season, Alcaraz said Djokovic still looks very young and hopes for many more matches against the record 24-time Grand Slam champion.

"Hopefully this will keep going. As I said many many times, and he has said it himself, he seems like he is 20. So, we are going to share the court more than once. It’s amazing and I would like to congratulate him and thank him for playing this match with me. I had a good time here,” Alcaraz said.

Meanwhile, Djokovic also issued a massive praise on Alcaraz, naming him as the one who will be leading men's tennis once the Big Three are all gone.

"It's good that there's a great new rivalry in tennis. He's going to lead for the next 10 or 15 years. Rafa didn't play in 2023, Federer retired... Our generation is coming to an end, but the emergence of Alcaraz is great," Djokovic said in Saudi Arabia prior to his match against Alcaraz.

Although it was just an exhibition, beating Djokovic was certainly a confidence boost for Alcaraz ahead of the 2024 season.
