Djokovic had a message for his Chinese fans after helping Serbia beat China at the United Cup.

Novak Djokovic delivered a special message to his Chinese fans in Chinese language, which left Olga Danilovic looking at the world No. 1 absolutely stunned. 

On Sunday, Djokovic's 2024 season started at the United Cup. In Perth, Djokovic defeated Zhang Zhizhan 6-3 6-2 in the first match of the Serbia and China tie.  

Djokovic gave an early lead to Serbia but China forced a decider after Zheng Qinwen beat Danilovic 6-4 6-2. When the time came for the deciding mixed doubles match, Djokovic stepped up again as he and Danilovic beat Zheng and Zhang 6-4 1-6 10-6. 

Djokovic, who has fans all around the world, took a moment in his press conference to congratulate New Year in Chinese. While Djokovic was delivering the message, Danilovic and Serbian United Cup captain Viktor Troicki looked stunned at the world No. 1.

"Happy New Year! How are you, thank you for your support, I love you, China, my good friend!" Djokovic said in Chinese.

Djokovic won both of his matches in the Serbia - China tie

In his first match of the new season, Djokovic broke Zhang in the sixth game for a 4-2 lead and then held on to his service for the remainder of the first set to clinch the opener. Djokovic then started the second set with back-to-back breaks and a 4-0 lead before routinely closing out the match.

Later that day, Djokovic had to return to the court because the tie needed to be decided in a mixed doubles match. Danilovic and Djokovic made a good start to the match, breaking Zheng and Zhang in the seventh game before serving out for the set in the 10th game. After winning the first set, Danilovic and Djokovic's level dropped in the second set as Zheng and Zhang started with a 5-0 lead before serving out for the set in the seventh game. 

After the opening couple of points in the match tie-break, the two teams were tied to three points. Then, Danilovic and Djokovic made a key run as they won the next four points to take a 7-3 lead before converting their third match point at 9-6.
