Novak Djokovic has dominated the Masters 1000 series, notching 40 titles from 58 finals and collecting almost every notable record at the premium ATP events. Novak entered the season with 399 Masters 1000 wins, seven less than the leader Rafael Nadal.

The Serb passed the opening obstacle in Indian Wells, achieving a huge milestone and becoming the second player with 400 Masters 1000 triumphs after his great Spanish rival! Djokovic played his first match since the Australian Open semi-final, beating Aleksandar Vukic 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 and notching an incredible achievement.

Novak stands six Masters 1000 wins behind Rafa and should become the leader with two deep runs in Indian Wells and Miami.

Djokovic scored his first Masters 1000 triumph as a qualifier in Paris at 18, claiming at least one win at this level in 20 consecutive seasons!

The Serb was 5-7 at Masters 1000 events in 2006 before taking charge in 2007, delivering almost 300 wins by 2016 and dominating like no one before him! Novak claimed five Masters 1000 titles in 2011 and excelled to an even higher level between Shanghai 2013 and Canada 2016, collecting a mind-blowing 16 trophies.

Djokovic had eight Masters 1000 finals in 2015 and rattled off 31 wins in 2011, backed with a streak of 30 between 2014 and 2015. Despite focusing on Majors, Novak claimed a Masters 1000 crown in the previous six seasons, extending his legacy and hoping for more in 2024, starting from Indian Wells.

Djokovic kicked off his 20th Masters 1000 season against Vukic and sealed the deal in three sets after two hours and ten minutes, entering the 'Club 400.' Novak played his first match in five weeks, struggling a bit with his movement but keeping everything under control.

The Serb saved four out of six break points, getting broken two times in the second set and maintaining the pressure on the Aussie in sets one and three. Vukic fought well but could not stay competitive in the final set, playing against 13 break points and giving serve away five times, ending his run in the second round.

Novak lost six points in his games in the opening set, finding the first serve and hitting the zone on the return en route to two breaks and 6-2 in 34 minutes.

Novak Djokovic secured his 400th Masters 1000 victory in Indian Wells.

Djokovic grabbed the second break chance in the first game of the match after a loose forehand from Vukic.

Novak held in game two with a backhand winner and missed another break chance in the next one after Aleksandar's service winner. Djokovic played against a break point in the fourth game, erasing it with a service winner and landing another for a 3-1 lead.

The Serb fired an unreturned serve in the sixth game, holding at love and pushing strong on the return in the next one. Vukic sprayed a forehand error on a break point, losing serve for the second time and falling 5-2 behind.

Djokovic closed the set with powerful serves in game eight, gathering a boost ahead of the second. Aleksandar raised his level and broke his idol two times in the second set to extend the battle.

The Aussie earned two break points in the second game with a forehand winner, and the Serb denied them.

However, Vukic seized the third break chance, opening a 2-0 advantage and playing against three break chances in the next one. Aleksandar denied them and forced Novak's mistake, confirming the break and moving 3-0 in front.

Djokovic climbed back from 15-40 in the fifth game and converted a break point with a crafty volley winner, reducing the deficit to 3-2. They served well in the upcoming games, and Novak cracked a forehand down the line winner in the tenth, locking the result at 5-5.

Vukic closed the 11th game with a service winner and pushed strong on the return in the next one. Djokovic netted a forehand and lost serve after Vukic's forehand return winner, allowing world no. 69 to clinch the set 7-5 and force a decider.

Novak grabbed the second game of the final set with a service winner and landed a forehand down the line return winner in the next one for a break chance. Aleksandar defended it with a forehand winner and repeated that on the second, closing the game with an ace and staying on the positive side.

Djokovic clinched a break at 2-2 after drawing Vukic's mistake, moving in front and closer to the finish line.

World no. 1 held at 30 in game six, extending the gap and keeping the pressure on the other side.

Aleksandar fired a service winner in the seventh game, holding at 15 and remaining within one break deficit. Djokovic produced another fine hold in the eighth game after a volley attack, extending the lead to 5-3 and forcing Vukic to serve to stay in the match.

Novak fired a forehand winner in the ninth game, creating two match points and converting the second to emerge at the top and celebrate a milestone 400th Masters 1000 victory.
