Novak Djokovic reportedly underwent an arthroscopy in Paris on Wednesday to repair the injury he suffered in the medial meniscus of his right knee, an injury that forced him to withdraw from Roland Garros after advancing to the quarterfinals, where he was to face Casper Ruud.

The surgical procedure consists of making a couple of small incisions in the aforementioned joint to introduce a mechanical device called an arthroscope, operated by the surgeon to repair the damaged area, which can be visualized through a micro camera. During a long interview with Le Figaro, John McEnroe reflected on Djokovic’s recent injury.

John McEnroe on Novak Djokovic's injury

John McEnroe slams the French Open for Novak Djokovic’s injury: "Putting Djokovic, 37, on the court at 10:30 PM (against Musetti in the third round), without knowing how long his match would last, was a huge mistake on the part of the organization. The weather was very bad, and they were in a difficult situation.

I understand that they wanted to catch up, but there were other solutions to finish the other match (Bergs vs Dimitrov)," McEnroe told Le Figaro. This would be the second surgical intervention for Djokovic, who underwent surgery for an injury to his right elbow in 2017, which kept him out for more than six months.

The goal of the 24-time Major champion will be to recover as soon as possible in order to make it to the Olympic Games, so he would be in rehabilitation for three to four weeks for an injury that could have been caused by wear and tear due to sports activity or by a strong twisting of the knee. Djokovic's 2024 has been up and down with the tennis player alternating between good performances and horrible defeats, and at the moment Djokovic is at 0 titles in this 2024. There is curiosity as to whether and how he will return to the court in the coming weeks.
