World No. 12 Taylor Fritz has high expectations for this year's Wimbledon as the American hopes to create his own "fairytale story" by either winning the title at The Championships or beating Novak Djokovic.

Fritz, 26, is set to make his eighth consecutive Wimbledon appearance this year. So far, Fritz's only notable Wimbledon result has been the quarterfinal he reached in 2022 - in which he suffered a heartbreaking five-set loss to Rafael Nadal. Other than that, Fritz had one third-round showing - three exits in the second round - and twice lost in the first round.

But in a video filmed for the ATP Tour, the 26-year-old noted he would go to Wimbledon with the hopes of landing his first Grand Slam title there. Also, Fritz underlined that beating seven-time Wimbledon champion Djokovic would be a massive achievement.

"Fairytale story... Hopefully me! I mean obviously to win. If I beat Novak for the first time somewhere in there, I think that's probably fairytale stuff," Fritz said in the video when asked to name a potential fairytale story.

Will Fritz have a chance to play Djokovic at this year's Wimbledon?

After tearing his knee meniscus at the French Open, Djokovic underwent surgery to repair the damage. The surgery was done last Wednesday and early prognosis said that the 37-year-old may potentially need just three weeks to recover.

But since Wimbledon is starting on July 1st, there are major concerns that Djokovic won't be taking part in this year's Wimbledon.

"I’m going to do my best to be healthy and fit to return to the court as soon as possible. My love for this sport is strong and the desire to compete at the highest level is what keeps me going," Djokovic wrote on Instagram last week.

If Djokovic indeed skips this year's Wimbledon, Fritz will have to wait for at least another year to have a chance of meeting the Serb at The Championships.
