A further test passed by Novak Djokovic on his return to the circuit after the operation on the right knee to which he was submitted almost a month ago, the number two of the world beat the British Jacob Fearnley in four sets in the second round of Wimbledon, a duel in which he imposed his hierarchy before a rival who dared to dream and who left very good feelings as a guest of the organization.

The winner of 24 Grand Slam titles had great words for Fearley, who surprised him by the level shown this Thursday. "Jacob made a great effort, he played great. I hadn’t had a chance to see him play until a couple of days ago.

There’s always an element of surprise and nothing to lose. I knew it would be hard to face him at Wimbledon. Most British players grow in contact with grass courts, with fast surfaces.”

Novak Djokovic is not at his best

Speaking on the latest edition of his podcast, tennis legend Jimmy Connors opened up on Novak Djokovic: “If he’s healthy and feeling good, then why wouldn’t he be right up there as the favourite? Sure, he’s had a tough season so far, but champions like Djokovic thrive under pressure. Wimbledon could be his stage to turn it all around.

Djokovic has this incredible knack for wearing down his opponents. His movement on the court is like no other, and his stamina is second to none.”

As we all know, Wimbledon is a tournament of traditions and the maximum tradition on which the tournament is totally uncompromising is the allowed attire.

To play on the courts of the All England Club the immaculate white is de rigueur, and that’s where it got a little stuck for Djokovic. The Serb showed up for his match with a grey knee brace but it looks like he was allowed this time by officials on the Centre Court until he found a white or lighter knee brace: "Actually, I ran into the president just before I got to the court.”
