Borna Coric's coach Riccardo Piatti believes there are some similarities between the Croatian player and the 14-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic. Piatti worked with Djokovic in the early stage of the Serb's career in 2004 and 2005, and Piatti has been working with Coric now for a year.
Speaking to L'Equipe on Coric's improvements, Piatti said: 'In the past he was a little bit more defensive, now he dictates a little bit more with his game, he is more aggressive. That's an important effort.
Borna has something of Nole. In the way he moves on court, in his game and personality. The connection between Coric and Djokovic is not false.' Piatti also praised Coric as a person: 'Borna is a respectful guy, easy to work with and who knows what he wants.
Younger players often do not know well because they are so good. With him it's a little bit the same: there is always something new that appears because he does not know how to fulfil his potential. But basics are very strong.' Coric cracked the top 50 rankings for the first time as a 18-year-old, which put a lot of expectations on him.
'It may have been too, too fast. I was not mature enough to do it. I stopped developing my game, I had a complicated year.' Commenting on his own character, Coric added: 'I would not say I am shy, I am a normal guy who goes on his path without being too noisy.'
