In an interview to a Bulgarian TV at the Sofia Open Gael Monfils commented on men's tennis, focusing on Grigor Dimitrov. The Bulgarian is going through a tough time physically, as he withdrew from both Rotterdam and Acapulco events due to a shoulder injury.
Monfils is confident that the best times will come for the former world No. 3. "Grigor is a very talented player. Last year (2017) he got great success and it's difficult to keep this level on a consistent basis, but he will be back and he will be at the top soon! I think the best player now is (Novak) Djokovic", said Monfils.
Bulgarians are in the spotlight this week in Sofia, including Tsvetana Pironkova who also gave an interview: "I miss tennis after I've been doing that for years. ... I'm not in a hurry to come back, my kid is a little, he's 10 months old.
... I didn't plan yet when I'll come back. There is a lot of things to conform to. We'll see how things will develop. I can't hurry", said Pironkova. This year Monfils withdrew from the Auckland Open where he was supposed to face Ugo Humbert in the first round, then he lost to Taylor Fritz in the Australian Open second round
