In an interview to Der Standard, Jurgen Melzer recalled when he defeated Novak Djokovic to reach the 2010 French Open semifinals and then lose to the eventual tournament winner Rafael Nadal. "Those were really big emotions", admitted the Austrian.
"Now those are only nice memories, I live in the present. Now, compared to singles, I spend less time on court, training should be more intense but matches are shorter. Which is not bad for me as a father. I keep playing not because of money.
It's a passion. I feel I can do it for three more years." The Austrian won three titles this year, two of them on the ATP Tour in Marrakech and Sofia with different partners: "That shows I can quickly adapt to a kind of player, so why should I not change them? I cannot complain, I got the best this year?"
