People know me more after beating Novak Djokovic, says Khachanov

In an interview to Tennis Magazin, Karen Khachanov said that his last year's Paris Masters title changed the media and people' perspective towards him. The Russian player defeated Novak Djokovic in the championship clash to conquer his biggest title ever.

"That's normal when you beat the biggest stars and win the biggest titles as I did in Paris Masters. The tennis crowd now knows me more", said Khachanov. Besides his career as a tennis professional, Khachanov studied sports sciences.

How did his studies go? "I finished my studies last year in June. Now I am a teacher of sports sciences. No, I am joking (laughter). So far I only have a high school licence. In Russia, you have to study after school or go to the military."

His nickname is Djan. Why? "Djan is an Armenian word. My father is Armenian. That's why my friends and my family call me like this. Djan means the good guy. It's difficult to translate." Meanwhile, Whoopi Goldberg, speaking on a TV channel, commented on Dominic Thiem being forced to leave an interview room because of Serena Williams: “I was surprised Roger Federer came out and also was defending Thiem’s position and saying this is unfair.

He should know better. Serena is the queen." Khachanov will headline the Stuttgart Mercedes Cup field next week on grass. The Russian is still competing in the French Open facing Dominic Thiem on Thursday.
