In an exclusive interview with Sport Klub, 2003 French Open champion Juan Carlos Ferrero said world No. 1 Novak Djokovic and second-seeded Rafael Nadal are the main favorites to win this year's Roland Garros title. Djokovic and Nadal could potentially meet in the French Open as the Serb is targeting to win Roland Garros and complete a Calendar Grand Slam once again, while the Spaniard is motivated to win his 12th title at the tournament.
Djokovic, who won the Madrid Masters and ended runner-up at the Rome Masters, continued his excellent form at Roland Garros as he has positioned himself in a strong position if he meets Nadal. On the other side, Nadal struggled a bit at the beginning of the clay season but then won it all in Rome to avoid entering the French Open without a title won on clay.
"If that match happens, it will be thrilling. In Paris, the conditions may not be as fast as in Madrid, and maybe in Rome, but Novak really wants to beat Nadal at Roland Garros -- which has happened only once so far. I think that he has prepared exceptionally -- he won a title on clay and he is eager to win," Ferrero added.
