2001 Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic has recalled his first meeting with world No. 1 Novak Djokovic as the Croatian knew from the moment he met the Serb that he was a special talent. Ivanisevic and Djokovic met nearly 20 years ago at the Nikola Pilic camp as 1973 French Open runner-up Pilic wanted the Croatian to have a look at then the Serbian wonderkid.
"When he was 14 and a half years old, Nikola told me 'look, here we have a kid from Belgrade -- a future champion -- play with him for a half an hour,"' Ivanisevic recalled his first meeting with Djokovic during an exclusive interview given to Sport Klub.
"Then he brought me a chocolate -- we played for half an hour and Nikola was right -- it was obvious that he had that something special." Now, Ivanisevic is helping 15-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic to defend his Wimbledon title as the two announced their partnership just a day before the start of Wimbledon. "Who would have thought that I would be coaching him 19 years after we first met," Ivanisevic added.
