World No. 1 Novak Djokovic has replaced his fitness coach Gebhard Phil Gritsch with Marco Panichi, per Jelena Medic of Blic. The 32-year-old Serb and fitness coach Panichi are well known to each other, having previously worked together during parts of the last two seasons.
Phil Gritsch was one of the coaching staff members Djokovic fired in May 2017 when he needed a "shock therapy." However, the two reunited just a year later when Djokovic decided to return Phil Gritsch and his long-time coach Marian Vajda to his coaching staff.
This time, the split between Djokovic and Phil Gritsch comes as a bit surprise due to the fact that the Serb has been playing an outstanding tennis for the past year. Meanwhile, Djokovic has taken an extensive break following his winning run at Wimbledon.
The Serb edged out record eight-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer in the Wimbledon final -- which lasted nearly five hours -- to lift his 16th Grand Slam title. Djokovic is expected to return to action at the Cincinnati Masters as he has withdrawn from next week's Rogers Cup in Montreal.
