Richard Gasquet shares what makes Novak Djokovic so strong

Richard Gasquet doesn't have a good win/loss record against Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. The Frenchman lost to the Spaniard 16 times out of 16, to the Serb 13 times out of 14, to the Swiss 18 times out of 20.

Gasquet believes Djokovic is the most difficult player to face. "They (Federer and Nadal) give me fewer problems", said Gasquet in a press conference. "He's a lot stronger than I am on both sides, and he hits the ball very flat.

My backhand doesn't give him trouble at all, and it's a weapon I need and often use against other players. He also serves very well." On his first round win in Montreal over his compatriot Benoit Paire, Gasquet added: "I am happy to have won, it was my first difficult match this year.

I had not played on the surface since last year's Paris. It was not easy. I am always looking to be fit, and winning matches is important. Last week in Kitzbuhel (against Philipp Kohlschreiber) I played a bad match, I could not do anything but come here."

On his next opponent Kei Nishikori, the 33-year-old concluded: "He is a favorite. I know he plays, the intensity he puts in, so it will be very difficult. It will be up to me to improve and not make him play his best tennis", said Gasquet, who leads head to head meetings 7-3 against the Japanese competitor.
