Former world No. 12 Viktor Troicki claims 17-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic played no part in the firing of Nenad Zimonjic and the hiring of him as the new Serbian Davis Cup team captain. Troicki, who was a member of the Serbian team that won the nation's first and lone Davis Cup title in 2010, will now be hoping to win a Davis Cup title as a captain.
Troicki hopes the younger players from the Serbian team will carry the nation to success but he has underlined that the team's leader is still world No. 1 Djokovic. "Novak Djokovic was as surprised as I was. He didn't want to get involved too much.
His goal was for the Davis Cup to stay with the younger ones and for them to carry the national team and for him to be there to help. Krajinovic, Lajovic, Kecmanovic, Djere, they are all younger than our generation that won the Davis Cup," Troicki said, as revealed on Novosti.RS.
"Novak is the main member and a lot depends on him. He wants to slowly give way to the younger ones. Not to be confused, he did not say that he would retire, but we will see when he can play. Of course he will be available."
Djokovic and Troicki helped Serbia win their lone Davis Cup title
2017 Paris Masters champion Krajinovic wasn't a member of the Serbian team that won the Davis Cup title but he remembers well the historic moment for his country.
"It was a beautiful experience with Novak Djokovic, who played really well at the time. He always plays well, but then he was really in shape and it is very important to us that he is winning. Victor beat Llodra in the final, and ten years passed quickly.
We have gathered now to celebrate it, unfortunately, not everyone was in the country. It was nice to remember those moments. The team is small, not everyone managed to come," Krajinovic said during his appearance on Nova S, as revealed on Sandzak Live.
Krajinovic thanked Zimonjic for his work and wished good luck to Troicki. "First of all, we are friends, Ziki did an amazing job, Viktor is now the coach, we all supported him and we can't wait to play for the national team again.
We couldn't play this year because of this situation, I hope tnere will be opportunities (to play again the Davis Cup)," Krajinovic said
