American tennis Denis Kudla insists world No. 1 Novak Djokovic deserves to be considered as the greatest tennis player of all time. Djokovic, 34, captured a record 20th Grand Slam title this past Sunday after beating Matteo Berrettini in the Wimbledon final.
Djokovic, Nadal and Federer now each have 20 Majors in their collection. However, Kudla believes that won't stay like that for too long. "I think he (Djokovic) is the greatest of all time," Kudla told The Newport Daily News.
"I think he will surpass all of the records by a lot when all is said and done. He just plays the game so incredibly well. It would have been interesting to see if the ages were a little different. If Fed was the youngest, or Rafa was the youngest."
Kudla says Djokovic's greatness goes beyond tennis court
“I think Novak deserves to be the GOAT, he is the GOAT, he does things nobody is willing to do. And I don’t think he’s just the GOAT in tennis.
He could be the greatest athlete of all time," Kudla said of Djokovic. When asked what it means to win a Grand Slam title No. 20, Djokovic said: “It means none of us will stop [playing]. I have to pay a great tribute to Rafa and Roger as legends of our sport, the two most important players in my career and why I am the player I am today.
They made me realise what I needed to improve, mentally, physically and tactically. "When I first broke into the Top 10, for three or four years, I lost most of the big matches against these guys and something shifted at the end of 2010 and the beginning of 2011.
The past 10 years have been an incredible journey and it’s not stopping here”. Djokovic has won the opening three Grand Slams of the season and he will be aiming to win the US Open in September and capture a Calendar Grand Slam.
