ATP Doubles: Wildcards Williams Blumberg, Jack Sock win Newport

Wildcards William Blumberg and Jack Sock have won it all in Newport. Blumberg and Sock, who were making their debut as a pair this week in Newport, beat Austin Krajicek and Vasek Pospisil. Blumberg and Sock made a perfect start to the match, having broken Krajicek and Pospisil in the first game.

Blumberg and Sock claimed their second break in the seventh game, before saving three break points in the following game to serve out for the opener. Blumberg and Sock blew an early second-set break but won the tie-break to seal a straight-set win.

Tim Puetz and Michael Venus join Blumberg and Sock on the winners list

No. 2 seeds Puetz and Venus have won it all in the Hamburg doubles event. Puetz and Venus edged out No. 1 seeds Kevin Krawietz and Horia Tecau 6-3 6-7 (3) 10-8 in the Hamburg final.

Puetz and Venus made a good start to the match, having broken Krawietz and Tecau in the third game to take a 2-1 lead. Puetz and Venus then saved a break point in the sixth game, before breaking Kraqietz and Tecau in the ninth game to win the opener.

After winning the first set, Puetz and Venus took a 5-1 lead in the second set. But Krawietz and Tecau refused to quit as they recovered from the deficit to force a tie-break -- which they won. After blowing a big lead in the second set, Puetz and Venus regrouped as they started the match tie-break with a 3-0 lead before realizing their third championship point.

“Thanks to the tournament, it is a great event and I love coming back here,” Venus said. “Thanks to Tim for playing with me. It was a tough one [today], you came back at us and made us not feel so good at the end there”.

Puetz added: “It was only our third tournament together, thank you for hitting that ace there in the tie-break Michael! I am enjoying our time together and I hope for many more”. Elsewhere, Dutch duo Sander Arends and David Pel beat Andre Begemann and Albano Olivetti 6-4 6-2 to win Bastad.

Arends and Pel broke Begemann and Olivetti in the third game and then held on to their serve the rest of the set to win the opener. In the second set, Arends and Pel lost their serve once but claimed three breaks to book a straight-set win.
