Croatia's Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic recorded their 60th win of the season after beating Kevin Krawietz and Horia Tecau on the opening day of the ATP Finals. Mektic and Pavic, who are the top favorites to win the ATP Finals and clinch their 10th title of the season, saw off Krawietz and Tecau 6-4 6-4.

Mektic and Pavic made a perfect start to the match, having broken Krawietz and Tecau in the opening game of the match. Mektic and Pavic failed to convert any of their three break points in the fifth game but routinely served out for the opener in the 10th game.

After winning the first set, Mektic and Pavic broke Krawietz and Tecau in the fifth game. Mektic and Pavic didn't allow a single break point during the whole match as they routinely served out for the match in the 10th game.

Mektic, Pavic presented the year-end No. 1 trophy

Mektic and Pavic have been absolutely dominant in 2021 and now they are aiming to win the ATP Finals in their team debut and cap off the season on the best possible way.

"Obviously we are extremely happy with this,” Pavic told the crowd inside the Pala Alpitour. “It’s the first time for Nikola, third time for me and the first time that two Croatians lifted this trophy at the end of the year.

I just wanted to say thank you to all the team over there, the coaches, girlfriends, everybody. Thanks a lot, and I hope you’re going to enjoy some tennis this week”. In the evening session, Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos beat Ivan Dodig and Filip Polasek.

Dodig and Polasek realized the first break of the match in in the 10th game -- which at the same time was the first set point -- to win the opener. Dodig and Polasek then claimed an early break in the second set but got broken back in the seventh game.

Granollers and Zeballos saved two match points in the 12th game and one more in the tie-break to force a decider. Dodig and Polasek never recovered from blowing three match points as Granollers and Zeballos dominated the match tie-break to complete a comeback win.
