The title clash at the ATP 250 event in Umag saw a battle between the top-10 rivals and the future of our sport. The defending champion and the top seed Carlos Alcaraz faced world no. 10 Jannik Sinner in the desired final, and the Italian emerged at the top.

Sinner defeated Alcaraz 6-7, 6-1, 6-1 in two hours and 25 minutes for his sixth ATP crown and the first on clay. Jannik dropped the first 13 encounters against the top-5 rivals before scoring his first victory on Sunday night in Umag.

Alcaraz was 36-0 this year after winning the first set, but he could not keep the perfect score after losing ground completely in sets two and three. The Italian defended all nine break points and started all over after the opener to deliver five breaks and leave the Spaniard behind.

Carlos lost the second final in as many weeks after falling to another Italian, Lorenzo Musetti, in Hamburg last Sunday. Sinner forced Alcaraz's mistake in the encounter's opening game for a hold at 15.

Carlos held at 30 in game two to add his name to the scoreboard and leveled the score at 2-2 with a service winner in game four.

Jannik hammered his forehand in game five for a hold at love and a 3-2 advantage before Carlos grabbed the next one for 3-3. The set went into a tie break, and the Spaniard played well to open a 5-1 lead. Sinner moved back to 4-5 and saved the first set point at 4-6 after Alacaraz's backhand error.

The Spaniard seized the second set point in the 12th point to wrap up the opener in over an hour. The Italian fended off all eight break points in the second set and delivered three breaks for 6-1 and a boost ahead of the decider.

Sinner defended six break points in the second game that could have been crucial had Alcaraz converted any. Jannik broke in game three and defended two more break chances in the next one for 3-1. Alcaraz sprayed a drop shot error in game five to lose serve at love and fall 4-1 behind.

Jannik delivered the third consecutive break at 5-1 with a deep return to wrap up the set and gain a boost ahead of the decider. The Italian denied a break point at 1-1 in the final set and never looked back. He broke the Spaniard in game four and held at love in the next one for 4-1.

Carlos lost the strings in his games and suffered the fifth break in the last six service games to find himself 5-1 behind. Jannik fired a service winner in game seven and celebrated his first clay-court ATP title.
