ATP ESTORIL & ISTANBUL: Good start for Edmund, Chung, and Khachanov

ATP 250 Estoril (Outdoor Clay) : French veteran Paul-Henri Mathieu won his 8th match of the season after beating Gastao Elias 6-3 6-4 in an hour and a half of play. Portuguese claimed Challenger title on Sunday in Turin and probably couldn't performed better in this match, losing almost 50% of the points on his serve.

Mathieu broke him 4 times but Elias also had his share of chances, converting only 2 break points out of 7 he had. Mathieu quickly gained a 5-1 lead in the first set after a double break, Elias pulled one back but that was enough only for 6-3 loss.

Better-ranked player built a 4-2 lead in the second set before Elias bounced back, leveling the score at 4-4 after break in game 8. In the next game, he was 40-15 up but Mathieu somehow managed to break and to finish the match with a love service game.

British youngster Kyle Edmund notched ATP win on his 3rd consecutive tournament, ousting experienced Spaniard Daniel Gimeno-Traver 6-3 7-5. Kyle pulled out a solid return performance, breaking Gimeno-Traver 5 times, pushing his rival to the limits on the second serve.

After saving a break point in the opening game Edmund launched a great few games, building 5-0 lead with a double break. Daniel came back to 5-3 but Edmund sealed the set with a love service game. In the second set, service let down both players, as they created 4 break points each.

Edmund reversed 4-1 deficit and he delivered another importan break in game 9 when Traver served for the set. Youngster seized the control with 3 breaks in succession to end the set, closing the match with a solid service game to reach the second round.

5th seed Guillermo Garcia-Lopez scored straight sets win over Michael Berrer, defeating German veteran 6-3 7-6. Spaniard was all over his rival in the first set, losing just 5 points on his serve and logging 2 breaks of serve, in the 1st and 9th games.

Berrer was also 5-1 down in the second set, but instead of giving up he managed to take 4 games in a row, saving a match point in game 10. Garcia-Lopez kept his coolness and didn't let any further mistakes in the tie break, winning it 7-3 to cross the finish line.
