ATP Shanghai: Rafa Nadal safely through to last-16

Top seed Rafa Nadal has progressed to the Shanghai Rolex Masters round-of-16.

The 16-time Grand Slam champion dominated promising Jared Donaldson 6-2 6-1.

Both players were tied at 2-2 when Nadal won four games in a row to clinch the first set.

Nadal continued his streak by winning the first three games of the following game.

Donaldson, 21, reduced the deficit to 3-1 before the Spaniard won three games in a row to seal the win.

Nadal won 22-of-26 of his first serve points and all 10 of his second serve points.

The top seed broke Donaldson four times and faced no break point chances in just 54 minutes of action.

Nadal is now set to meet next Italy's Fabio Fognini.

World No. 10 David Goffin's notable streak has finally come to an end.

France's Gilles saw off the Shenzhen Open and Tokyo champion Goffin in straight sets 7-6 (4) 6-3. 

Simon won four points in a row to close out the first set tie-break with a 7-4 score. 

The Frenchman broke the Belgian twice in the second set to get the job done in two sets.

Simon broke Goffin twice and saved 3-of-3 of the Belgian's break point chances in exactly an hour and a half of play.

Simon plays fellow compatriot Richard Gasquet next. 

No. 10 seed Sam Querrey has also prolonged his campaign in Shanghai, while No. 11 Kevin Anderson wasn't that lucky.

Querrey defeated fellow rising compatriot Frances Tiafoe in the second round 6-3 7-6 (7). 

Tiafoe was up by a break at the beginning of the second set and also didn't convert a set point at 7-6 in his favor in the tie-break.

Big-serving Querrey bombed Tiafoe with 24 aces and saved 9-of-10 of Tiafoe's break point tries in just less than an hour and a half of play.

Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov is set to be the next opponent of Querrey.

World No. 58 Jan-Lennard Struff pulled off a suprise by beating US Open runner-up Anderson 7-6 (5) 7-6 (2).

Struff had no break points on Wednesday but his ability to save each three of Anderson's break point chances and force two tie-breaks was the key in his win.

Aleksandr Dolgopolov has also made progress following his tough win eaened over Feliciano Lopez 7-6 (4) 1-6 6-4.
