ATP Acapulco: Alexander Zverev and Jared Donaldson shine to reach the semis

World number 5 Alexander Zverev will play in his first semi-final since Beijing in October after a one-sided 6-4 6-1 win over Ryan Harrison in an hour and 7 minutes. The German served at only 53% but there was nothing wrong with his initial shot, dropping 16 points in eight service games and fending off all four break points he faced to keep the pressure on the other side of the net.

Harrison, who already scored nine wins in 2018 so far had nothing in his arsenal to fight and resist, losing almost 50% of the points in his games and getting broke four times from seven chances he gave to Alexander. Zverev will now face Dominic Thiem or Juan Martin del Potro, seeking his first final appearance since Montreal last year when he won the second Masters 1000 crown.

Jared Donaldson came to Acapulco with three ATP wins and now he will play in his first ever semi-final on the ATP level following a 6-3 6-1 triumph against the Spanish veteran Feliciano Lopez in 53 minutes! It was a masterclass performance from the young American who dropped just two points on serve and won almost 50% of the points on the return, breaking Lopez four times from five break points he gained.

Donaldson moved in front with a break in game two after a beautiful forehand lob and that set the tone for the rest of the match, as he took full control from there. Both players held with ease in the following games and Lopez could at least stay within one break deficit in game nine, after a 40-15 lead.

He wasted four break points and Jared broke him with a backhand return winner to grab the opener 6-3. The American sailed through his service games in set number two as well and Feliciano was unable to follow that pace, getting broken at love in game four after netting an easy forehand.

Donaldson was just too good from the baseline and another lob winner gave him a 5-1 lead in game six, serving for the match in the following game. He blasted two service winners and completed his impressive win when Lopez sent a backhand long, happy with the way he performed and hoping for more of the same in the semis against Hyeon Chung or Kevin Anderson.
