US Open: Novak Djokovic strolls past Richard Gasquet to enter the last 16

World number 6 and a two-time US Open champion Novak Djokovic has reached the last 16 for the 11th time in a row in New York, defeating the 26th seed Richard Gasquet 6-2 6-3 6-3 in two hours and 10 minutes for his 13th win over the Frenchman in 14 matches! Richard has saved all 14 break points in the opening two rounds to enter the last 32 without losing serve but Novak Djokovic is certainly not the player against you can expect to continue that streak, facing 12 break points and suffering five breaks of serve to suffer yet another defeat against the Serb.

Novak was once again the dominant figure from the baseline, taming his shots beautifully to hit 32 winners and 25 unforced errors, also fending off all five break points he faced to mount the pressure on the other side of the net.

Gasquet was unable to impose his shots, hitting almost 50 unforced errors and not matching the pace and depth of Novak's groundstrokes. Djokovic grabbed 20 of 31 second serve returns and he looks very sharp before the potential quarter-final match against Roger Federer, with both facing easy rivals in the fourth round.

It wasn't a perfect start for Novak, though, having to save two break points in the very first game of the match, and he missed three chances on the return in the second game to keep Richard in touch in this early phase.

Still, Novak broke at love in the fourth game after an amazing court coverage and defense and he painted a backhand down the line winner in game eight for another break and a 6-2 in 37 minutes. Djokovic sailed through his service games in the second set and Richard couldn't follow that pace, losing serve at love in game two after a poor backhand to find himself a set and a break down.

Serving for the set in game nine, Novak overpowered Gasquet's backhand with his own and he was a set away from the place in the fourth round. A forehand winner in the fifth game of the third set gave Novak a break point and he converted it with another deep return to move 3-2 ahead.

The Frenchman had his chances on the return in the following two games, though, but he wasted three break points before Novak sealed the deal with another backhand down the line winner that gave him a break in the ninth game and the place in the next round where he will face Joao Sousa.
