World number 67 Pierre-Hugues Herbert has notched his 20th win of the season after a commanding 6-4 6-3 win over Dusan Lajovic in an hour and four minutes. The Frenchman lost just nine points in 10 service games and he faced just one break point, staying in touch with Lajovic in the baseline rallies and breaking him once in each set to secure the win in straight sets.
The opening set lasted just over 30 minutes and Pierre-Hugues earned it with a break at 15 in game 10, saving his best returns for the best possible moment. He repelled a break point in the fifth game of the second set and he broke Dusan at 4-3, moving over the finish line with back-to-back holds at love to enter the last 16.
The Briton Cameron Norrie also had a great day in the office, ousting Di Wu 6-2 6-2 in 70 minutes for the 17th win in 2018. Cameron served at 62% and he saved all six break points to keep his service games intact and mount the pressure on the other side of the net.
Wu had a mediocre season so far and he couldn't keep the pace with his rival, serving at only 40% and suffering four breaks from seven chances he gave to Cameron. Trailing 2-1, Norrie rattled off five games in a row to claim the opener 6-2 and he saved four break points in the second game of the second set to move 5-2 ahead with breaks in games three and seven.
Serving for the match in the eighth game, Cameron saved two break points and he crossed the finish line to set an entertaining clash with the 3rd seed Borna Coric. First round results:
