Hurlingham: Marin Cilic sees off Rafael Nadal

World No. 2 Rafael Nadal has been beaten in his first match on grass this year as 18th-ranked Marin Cilic claimed a 6-3 6-3 over the Spaniard at the Hurlingham exhibition. Cilic started the match with a break but his lead didn't last long Nadal broke back the Croatian immediately in the following game.

But, Nadal continued to struggle on his serve as the Croatian broke the Spaniard in the fifth and ninth game to win the opening set. Nadal had a chance to go up by an early break in the second set but Cilic saved a break point in the third game.

After saving a break point in the third game, Cilic broke Nadal in the fourth game and then held on to his serve to seal the win. In the second match of the day, Japanese Kei Nishikori edged out France's Lucas Pouille 7-5 7-6 (4).

Nishikori got the first break of the match in the ninth game but failed to serve out for the opener in the following game. However, the Japanese kept his focus as he once again broke the French in the 11th game before successfully serving out for the set in the 12th game.

Nishikori then recovered from a break down in the second set to force a tie-break, where he won four points in a row to overturn a 4-3 deficit and seal a straight-set win.
