Rising Canadian star Denis Shapovalov has stunned world No. 1 Novak Djokovic at The Boodles as the 20-year-old earned a straight-set win 7-6 (3) 6-4. As not a single break point was seen in the first set, the first set went into a tie-break -- where Shapovalov won six points in a row to take a 6-1 lead before converting his third set point.
Djokovic got the first break of the match in the first game of the second set but failed to capitalize as Shapovalov broke the Serb in the sixth and 10th game to claim a straight-set win. In a battle between two rising stars, world No.
9 Karen Khachanov came from a set down to beat sixth-ranked Stefanos Tsitsipas 3-6 6-3 10-8. Tsitsipas blew the first break he earned but broke Khachanov once again in the eighth game and then held on to his serve to win the opener.
However, Khachanov kept his focus as he started the second set with a 3-0 lead and then held on to his serve to force a decider. The Russian then converted his second match point in the match tie-break to complete a comeback.
In the final match of the day, Argentina's Diego Schwartzman demolished world No. 10 Fabio Fognini 6-2 6-1. Schwartzman started the match with consecutive breaks but failed to bagel Fognini as the Italian broke the Argentine while he was serving for the first set in the sixth game.
However, it didn't affect Schwartzman as the Argentine once again won five games in a row to take open a 6-2 4-0 lead. World No. 24 Schwartzman claimed his sixth break of the match in the seventh game of the second set to seal the win.
