ATP Hamburg: Zverev brothers blow two match points, lose to qualifiers

Qualifiers Julian Lenz and Daniel Masur have shocked Alexander Zverev and Mischa Zverev in their Hamburg doubles opener 6-4 3-6 11-9. The Zverev brothers made a perfect start to the match as they broke Lenz and Masur in the opening game of the match.

After blowing six break point chances, Lenz and Masur finally converted their seventh break point to level the first set at four games apiece. But the Zverevs quickly regained the lead as they broke Lenz and Masur in the following game before serving out for the opener in the 10th game.

However, Lenz and Masur kept their focus as they saved a break point in the third game before breaking the Zverev brothers in the fourth game of the second set. The Zverevs saved a point on their serve in the eighth game but it didn't help them much as Lenz and Masur routinely served out for a decider in the following game.

Lenz and Masur then came up big when needed most as they saved two consecutive match points before realizing their first match point to stage an upset and complete a big comeback. Lenz and Masur converted just 2-of-8 of their break point chances but also saved 6-of-8 of the break point opportunities they faced in just less than an hour and a half of play. Lenz and Masur will fight against fourth-seeded Robin Haase and Wesley Koolhof for a place in the Hamburg semifinal.
