ATP Cincinnati: Alexander Zverev hits 20 double faults and rock bottom!

Alexander Zverev lost the eighth match to a player from outside the top-50 in the mediocre season he has had so far, and the worst thing for him is that doesn't stand as a big deal anymore! The German has somehow scored 30 wins in 2019 but has never been the player from 2017 and 2018, hitting another early exit door in Cincinnati as Miomir Kecmanovic took him down 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 in two hours and 18 minutes for the first top-10 triumph!

The young Serb defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime on Monday and stood strong today as well, losing serve three times and taking full advantage of dreadful 20 double faults from Zverev, a source of every fifth point he claimed today!

As usual this year, Alexander struggled on the second serve, made too many errors in the pivotal moments and lost the ground on the return in sets two and three to propel Miomir through to the last 16. The German lost four points in a row on serve in the fourth game to hand Kecmanovic a break following a double fault, pulling it back in the very next game after a forehand error from Miomir to level the score at 3-3.

Miomir sprayed a backhand error at 4-4 to suffer another break and leave Zverev serving for the opener, only to ruin everything like countless times in the first seven and a half months of this season. Instead of bringing the set home, Alexander hit a double fault to get broken before finally securing the set with a half-volley winner at 6-4 in the tie break for a massive boost.

Kecmanovic saved a break point in the second game of the second set, moving in front following another double fault from Zverev at 2-2 and holding at 15 to cement the advantage. Making his misery on the court bigger and bigger, the German failed to land the serve in again in the final point of the seventh game, trailing 5-2 and allowing Miomir to hold with an ace for a 6-2 and the momentum ahead of the decider.

The Serb grabbed a break at 2-2 in the decider thanks to a terrible volley from Zverev who erased the deficit a few minutes later, breaking back to level the score at 3-3 and extend his chances. They were gone after the seventh game, though, netting a backhand to get broken for the second time in a row and ending his fifth Cincinnati appearance already after the first encounter when Miomir held in game ten to celebrate the career-best win so far, leaving Zverev in ruins after an awful performance.
