Belgium's Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen have captured their title of the season after beating Marcelo Demoliner and Matwe Middelkoop in the Zhuhai Championships final. Gille and Vliegen, seeded at No. 4, overcame Demoliner and Middelkoop in two tight sets 7-6 (2) 7-6 (4) after an hour and 46 minutes of play.
The Belgians failed to serve out for the first set in the 10th game but kept their focus as they cruised past the tie-break to win the opener. Gille and Vliegen missed out on a great chance to claim a straight-set win earlier as they blew three match points in the ninth game and one more on their serve in the following game.
Demoliner and Middelkoop were on the verge of forcing a decider but failed to convert any of their two set points in the 12th game. Gille and Vliegen once again came up bigger when needed most as they won another tie-break to seal the title.
Elsewhere, Serbia's Nikola Cacic and Dusan Lajovic stunned No. 4 seeds Jonathan Erlich and Fabrice Martin 7-6 (9) 3-6 10-3 to lift the Chengdu Open doubles title. The fourth-seeded duo saved three set points but also blew their own two set points as Cacic and Lajovic realized their fourth set point to win an extremely tight first set.
Cacic and Lajovic then started the second set with a break but Erlich and Martin responded by claiming back-to-back breaks to take a 4-1 lead and eventually force a decider. After putting up a great effort to force a match tie-break, Erlich and Martin's game shockingly fell apart as Cacic and Lajovic, who won the opening seven points of the match tie-break.
Cacic and Lajovic then routinely finished the job as they left no room for the third seeds to make a potential comeback.
