South-African Raven Klaasen and Michael Venus of New Zealand have clinched the first win at this year's Nitto ATP Finals. Klaasen and Venus handed a straight-set defeat to USA's Rajeev Ram and home favorite Joe Salisbury 6-3 6-4 in just over an hour or play.
Ram and Salisbury pressured Klaasen and Venus' serve early on but failed to convert any of their two break points in the opening game of the match. Klaasen and Venus claimed the first break point of the match in the fourth game to take a 3-1 lead after converting their second break point.
Ram and Salisbury saved two break points in the sixth game to avoid going down by a double break, before they failed to realize two more break points in the ninth game. Klaasen and Venus converted the lone break point of the second set in the seventh game and then routinely held on to their serve to clinch a win.
Klaasen and Venus won 82 percent of their first serve points and saved 4-of-4 of Ram and Salisbury's break point chances.
