France's Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut have qualified for the semifinals at the Nitto ATP Finals after beating 2019 French Open champions Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies 7-5 7-6 (3) in just over an hour and a half of play.
Herbert and Mahut failed to capitalize on an early break as they failed to serve out for the first set in the ninth game but still won the opener after breaking Krawietz and Mies in the 12th game. After winning a tight first set, Herbert and Mahut struggled on their serve at the beginning of the second set as they got broken in the opening game of the first set but managed to avoid going down by a double break after saving two break points in the third game.
Krawietz and Mies couldn't hold on to their serve for the rest of the set to force a decider as the Frenchmen broke back the Germans in the eighth game to fully get back into the set, before cruising past the tie-break to get the job done in two sets.
Herbert and Mahut now sit on top of Group Max Mirnyi with two wins, while Krawietz and Mies have captured one win and one loss in two matches played at The O2 Arena.
