Stan Wawrinka and Frances Tiafoe's doubles campaign at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open came to an end on Wednesday after they came up short against the third-seeded duo. Wawrinka, 34, and 22-year-old Tiafoe beat Alexander Bublik and Andrey Rublev in their Doha doubles opener but couldn't stun Rohan Bopanna and Wesley Koolhof two days later in the quarterfinal as the doubles specialists won 6-3 6-4.
Bopanna and Koolhof claimed the first break of the match in the fourth game but quickly lost the lead after dropping their serve in the following game. However, it didn't take long for Bopanna and Koolhof to earn another break as they broke Wawrinka and Tiafoe to love in the eighth game, before routinely serving out for the opener in the following game.
Wawrinka and Tiafoe never recovered from losing the first set as Bopanna and Koolhof started the second set with a break and then didn't allow their opponents a single break point in the rest of the set to clinch the win.
Bopanna and Koolhof won 81 percent of their first serve and conveyed each of their break point chances en route to securing a semifinal spot in just 48 minutes of play.
