ATP Roland Garros: Rafael Nadal follows Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic into R3

The 13-time Roland Garros winner Rafael Nadal is through to the third round in Paris following a 6-0, 7-5, 6-0 triumph over Richard Gasquet in two hours and 14 minutes. Nadal scored his 102nd victory in Paris from 104 encounters and beat Gasquet for the 17th time in as many matches for complete domination over his coeval.

The Spaniard had 36 winners and 23 unforced errors, losing serve once and delivering seven breaks from 16 opportunities to control the scoreboard. Gasquet played well in the second half of the second set, but it wasn't enough for a positive result, failing to take a set away from Rafa since Toronto 2008!

Nadal was the only player on the court in the opener, bringing it home in no time after 11 winners and three unforced errors. The Spaniard dropped two points behind the initial shot and secured three return games for a bagel and the strongest start.

Nadal held at love in the first game and placed a return winner a few minutes later for a break and a 2-0 advantage. Rafa blasted a backhand down the line winner in the third game to cement the break and extend the gap, looking good so far and moving 4-0 in front when Gasquet sprayed a forehand error in game four.

Never putting a foot wrong, Nadal fired an unreturned serve in game five and closed the opening set with a forehand crosscourt winner a few minutes later for his 40th bagel at Majors.

Rafael Nadal scored the 102nd Roland Garros victory over Richard Gasquet.

The Spaniard raced into a 5-2 lead in set number two, creating a set point in the eighth game before the Frenchman started his comeback, fending off a set point and claiming three straight games before Rafa restored the order and grabbed the set with a late break.

Nadal clinched a break in the fourth game with a perfect drop shot winner and held with a powerful serve for a 4-1 advantage. Facing a break point in game seven, the 13-time champion saved it with a drop shot winner and held to move closer to the finish line in set number two.

Gasquet saved a set point on serve in game eight, scored his first break of the match at 3-5 and leveled the score at 5-5 to extend his chances. Remaining calm, Nadal forced Gasquet's error in the 12th game to secure a break and the set, making another big step towards the finish line.

Richard fended off two break chances at 1-2 in set number three to remain in touch before Nadal broke him two games later when Gasquet netted a forehand. Nadal held at 15 in game seven and sealed the deal with another break at 5-2 to advance into the third round.
