Coco Gauff reached the semi-finals of the Adelaide International 2 on Thursday. The American defeated Ana Konjuh 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and 21 minutes in their quarter-final clash. The third seed, who’s the highest seed remaining in the Adelaide draw, won 66% of her first-serve points to Konjuh’s 55%.

In terms of second-serve points won, Gauff won 52% to the Croatian’s 48%. Konjuh faced 11 break points and while she saved seven of these, the four she wasn’t able to save made the difference in the end. Gauff, looking to reach her first final of the 2022 season will take on fellow American, Madison Keys.

In the last match of the day, Keys outlasted eighth seed Liudmila Samsonova. After an hour and 37 minutes of play, Keys won 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Keys saved two of the three break points she faced while converting two of the four break points she had on the Russian’s serve.

This will be the first meeting between Gauff and Keys.

Adelaide International 2: Madison Brengle forced to retire mid-match

Meanwhile, at the top of the draw, fourth seed Tamara Zidansek also advanced to the semi-finals.

The Slovenian won against American Lauren Davis 7-6(4), 7-6(7) in two hours and 10 minutes. The match featured three breaks of serve each. For the match, it was Davis who finished with marginally more points than the victor – she won 96 points to Zidansek’s 94.

Zidansek will take on Davis’ fellow countrywoman, Alison Riske in the penultimate round. Riske came through an all-American derby in the quarter-final against Madison Brengle. With scores tied at three-all in the opening set, Brengle decided to stop play allowing Riske to make it through to the last-four.

The Adelaide International 2 semi-final between Tamara Zidansek and Alison Riske will be the first time that the two will be playing against each other.
