Third seed Rebecca Peterson was upset in the second round of the Copa Colsanitas on Tuesday. Tatjana Maria defeated the Swede, who was the only seed playing, 6-1, 6-4 in an hour and 29 minutes. Maria put in only 42% of her first-serves as compared to Peterson’s 62% but she won 83% of her first-serve points to her opponent’s 64%.
In terms of second-serve points won, Peterson managed to win only 21% while the German managed to win 43%. Peterson was let down by 10 double faults that she hit throughout the match. In the quarter-finals, Maria will play another Swede in Miriam Bjorklund.
Bjorklund defeated Yuliana Lizarazo, 6-1, 6-4 in an hour and 26 minutes. Bjorklund won 70% of her first-serve points to Lizarazo’s 53% and 30% of her second-serve points to her opponent’s 35%. She saved four of the six break points she faced while converting six of the 12 break points she had on Lizarazo’s serve.
Of the total of 122 points played, Bjorklund finished with 70 to Lizarazo’s 52.
Copa Colsanitas: Dayana Yastremsa has it easy against Sara Errani
Laura Pigossi, who shocked fifth seed Harmony Tan in the first round backed up her upset with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Ekaterine Gorgodze to reach the quarter-finals.
The Brazilian, who qualified for the main draw needed an hour and 13 minutes to post the win. Pigossi won 63% of her first-serve points and 66% of her second-serve points to Georgian’s 50% and 41% respectively. She converted five of the six break points she had on Gorgodze’s serve while saving three of the five break points she faced.
Pigossi will play Dayana Yastremska for a chance to reach the semi-finals. The Ukrainian ousted Sara Errani 6-3, 7-6(3) in an hour and 30 minutes to reach the quarters. Meanwhile, Errani’s compatriot, Lucrezia Stefanini also didn’t fare well in her second-round match at the Copa Colsanitas.
