Palermo Ladies Open: Lucia Bronzetti & Jasmine Paolini assure Italy of one final spot

Lucia Bronzetti and Jasmine Paolini will take on each other while the fourth-seeded Sara Sorribes Tormo and sixth seed Irina-Camelia Begu will clash against each other. Bronzetti upset the fifth-seeded Caroline Garcia 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 in two hours and 56 minutes in their quarter-final clash.
The world no. 78 saved eight of the 11 break points she faced while converting four break points on the Frenchwoman’s serve. She also won 72% of her first-serve points to Garcia’s 64%. Her next opponent, fellow countrywoman Paolini also posted a comeback in her quarter-final clash against the eighth-seeded Nuria Parrizas Diaz.
Paolini needed three hours and six minutes to claim a 6-7(5), 7-5, 6-2 victory. Paolini saved 19 of the 22 break points she faced while securing six breaks on the Spaniard’s serve. She also won 74% points on return on Parrizas Diaz’s second serves while winning 60% of her first-serve points and 50% of her second-serve points.

Meanwhile, Parrizas Diaz’s fellow Spaniard, Sorribes Tormo needed 91 minutes to wrap up a 6-2, 6-3 win over the seventh seed Anna Bondar. Tormo saved two of the three break points she faced while converting four of the eight break points on the Hungarian’s serve.
The last semi-finalist at the Palermo Ladies Open, Romania’s Begu posted a 6-1, 6-3 win over France’s Diane Parry. Begu needed an hour and 45 minutes to complete the win. Both players struggled massively with their second serves although Begu was able to take the opening set and the lead in the match on the back of having won more points off her first serves – 86%.
