Daria Kasatkina advanced to the second round of the Granby Open on Monday. The tournament top seed came from a set down to defeat Greet Minnen, 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-2. The match was completed three minutes shy of three hours. A dozen double faults marred Kasatkina’s game and Kasatkina largely struggled to win points off her second serve.

In the opening set, she won 36% of her second-serve points which fell down to 25% in the deciding set. In the second set, she did reasonably better by winning 55% of her second-serve points. Kasatkina lost her serve four times in the match while converting seven break points on the Belgian’s serve.

Of these seven, three came in the first and deciding sets, while the second set saw Minnen lose her serve once. In the second round, Kasatkina will play Magdalena Frech. The Pole defeated Danka Kovinic, 7-6(3), 6-2 in their opener on Sunday.

Granby Open: Good start for Jasmine Paolini

The second-highest seed in the draw, third-seeded Jasmine Paolini also moved into the second round with a 7-6(6), 6-4 win over Japanese lucky loser, Himeno Sakatsume. The Italian needed an hour and 25 minutes to wrap up the match.

Next up for Paolini is Rebecca Marino. Marino defeated fellow countrywoman, Victoria Mboko in a Canadian derby, 6-3, 6-3 in 63 minutes. At the bottom of the draw of the Granby Open, ninth seed Daria Saville also reached the second round.

The Australian defeated Anna-Karolina Schmiedlova 6-3, 6-3 in their opening-round clash on Sunday. Saville needed an hour and 32 minutes to complete the match. Saville’s next opponent will be Canadian Katherine Sebov, who won her opener on Sunday as well.

Sebov defeated Xinyu Wang in a match that required her to make a comeback from a set down, claiming a 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 victory after two hours and nine minutes of play.
