Zheng will take on Jasmine Paolini in the penultimate round.

The Italian withstood a second-set comeback attempt by Laura Siegemund in their last-eight encounter, to wrap up the meeting, 6-0, 7-5 in an hour and 44 minutes. Paolini won 72% of her first-serve points to the German’s 50%.

Krejcikova led her rival, Lesia Tsurenko 6-3 in the opening set before the latter decided not to continue in the match due to injury woes. The Czech will play Daria Kasatkina for an opportunity to make it to the finale of the Zhengzhou Open.

The eighth-seeded Kasatkina had already gone into the semis after her opponent in the quarters, Ons Jabeur had given her a walkover on account of an injury.
