Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff had a good day at the office on Friday as they have made the French Open round-of-16 and are set to feature in the second week at Roland Garros.

Swiatek, the No. 1 seed and the defending champion, gave no chance to world No. 42 Marie Bouzkova as she dismantled the Czech tennis player 6-4 6-2 in the French Open third round. And in her next match, Swiatek plays against Anastasia Potapova.

Meanwhile, third-seeded Gauff made light work of 2024 Australian Open semifinalist Dayana Yastremska 6-2 6-4 to set up a round-of-16 meeting against Elisabetta Cocciaretto.

How Swiatek overcame Bouzkova?

Swiatek got off to a good start, breaking Bouzkova in the third and seventh games for a routine 5-2 lead. Down by a double break, Bouzkova refused to quit as she managed to get one break in the eighth game and then serve out the next to cut the deficit to 4-5.

However, Swiatek failing to serve out for the opener in her first attempt didn't impact her much as the Pole routinely closed out the set in the ninth game.

After clinching the opener, Swiatek also started the second set with back-to-back breaks and a 4-0 lead. With Swiatek up 5-1 and Bouzkova serving to stay in the match, the Pole missed out on her first match point but realized her fourth match point on her serve in the eighth game.

How Gauff saw off Yastremska?

In what could have been a potentially tricky matchup, Gauff made an outstanding start as she broke No. 30 seed Yastremska in the third and seventh games to routinely win the first set.

Up by a set, Gauff also started the second set by breaking Yastremska in the opening game of the set. Down by a set and a break, Yastremska showed some signs of life after getting the break back instantly in the second game and serving out the next game for a 2-1 lead.

However, Gauff blowing an early second-set break didn't impact the American much as she went on to win the next four games and go 5-2 up. Down by a set and a double break, Yastremska managed to get one break back after saving a match point in the eighth game but Gauff didn't panic and put an end to the match on her serve in the 10th game.
