Caroline Wozniacki has her first win on grass since ending her retirement and it came in quite a way after the former world No. 1 came back to beat No. 7 Elina Svitolina 6-3 6-7 (4) 7-5 in the Bad Homburg first round to put an end to her streak of four consecutive defeats.

After the Bad Homburg draw was released and everything was set for a Wozniacki and Svitolina showdown, the two former top-5 players started their match on Monday. But unfortunately, they had a late start, and after Svitolina went up by an early break in the third set and opened a 2-1 lead, the organizers suspended play.

By beating Svitolina, Wozniacki set up a Bad Homburg round-of-16 meeting against Veronika Kudermetova but also got her first win since April 1st and also just her second victory against Svitolina in their seven meetings.

How Wozniacki edged out Svitolina in Bad Homburg?

Early in their Bad Homburg match that started on Friday, Wozniacki was twice down by a break but twice recovered. Then, Wozniacki broke Svitolina in the eighth game to open a 5-3 lead and go up by a break for the first time in the match. In the following game, Wozniacki had no issues serving out for the first set.

After missing out on her chances in the first set, Svitolina also risked losing the second set after she got an early break but allowed Wozniacki to get back into the set and force a tie-break. But this time, Svitolina didn't lose the set after she won the first four points of the tie-break and later realized her first set point.

Then, Svitolina started the third set in a promising way by breaking Wozniacki in the third game. However, an early break was no issue for Wozniacki, who fought back before opening a 5-3 lead.

Serving for the match, Wozniacki didn't manage to get the job done but it was no problem because she broke Svitolina again in the 12th game to seal the win.
